At age 52, I have been using Copper Peptides for almost one year and added Retin A, two months ago…. I don’t believe in store or commercially bought anti-aging products anymore, but find the research and track record of Retin A and the seeming trustworthiness of Dr. Pickart (CP’s) hard to resist. Both claim to “remodel” skin, and I wonder whether I’d be missing out, long term, not to use them. What do you think?

Nowadays many women, like my reader above, are reaching for the latest discoveries such as Copper Peptides and Retin-A, two patented products promising unique, unrivaled benefits. Retin A chemically exfoliates, while copper peptides assist in wound healing and recovery. Both promise to “remodel” your skin, and they do—after a fashion. But once you understand the science behind it, you’ll see there are easier, cheaper, and healthier ways to do the same job. How do I know? Because I’ve been doing it for the last fifteen years with great results.

What is Retin A?

Let’s take a more careful look. As the product’s name suggests, it is a retinoid, a chemical compound derived from Vitamin A, and is only available by prescription. This by itself sends up red flags for me.

Retin A is commonly used to treat acne, but users discovered that their skin also improved in other ways. This, I believe, is due to the fact that your skin will immediately go into a repair-and-rejuvenate mode after damage is inflicted on it.

Retin-A is known to boost collagen production. But this is something your body will do on its own if you exfoliate enough. Retinoids act on the DNA of the living layers of skin, increasing skin cell turnover and promoting the extrusion matter clogging your follicles. The product’s compounds also prevent the formation of new blackheads or whiteheads.

All these new skin renewing methods base themselves on an old idea: inducing repair by stripping the outer layer of skin, “tricking” the body into producing new cells and making new collagen. “Damaging” your skin is a highly effective way to see a real difference in skin quality. Retin A does that, and in essence that’s why it works. There is, however, a better way to do it. Facial dry brushing accomplishes what all these products and methods claim to do—and then some!

What’s the Bad News?

All these benefits come with a price. The effect of increased skin cell turnover can be irritation and flaking, as retinoids make skin very sensitive and susceptible to damage. So sensitive in fact that you must wear sunscreen daily if you go out in the sun even for a few minutes. You cannot use retinoids if you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant because it could cause birth defects. Another red flag!

People often give up in the first few weeks of using Retin-A because the irritation causes them to think it isn’t working.

Compare this with facial dry brushing. This practice, too, increases cell turnover, unclogs pores, and increases circulation, but without side effects. No need for sunscreen, either. Initial irritation is very mild and only lasts until your skin grows accustomed to the brushing.

Copper Peptides

The utility of copper peptides was discovered by Dr. Loren Pickart in the late 70’s while researching wound healing. He researched the effects of peptides (small fragments of proteins) on tissue regeneration, eventually patenting several peptides that bind in specific ways with copper. Certain copper peptides help reduce scar tissue formation while stimulating the skin to return to its original condition. It is the wound-healing effects of copper peptides that lead some doctors and dermatologists to use them as a recovery aid after procedures such as chemical peels, dermabrasion and laser resurfacing. Because they are also anti-inflammatory, they are often used in combination with products such as Retin-A.

The Downside of Copper Peptides

As you may suspect, even these “healing” copper peptides don’t come without risk. Here is an instructive quote from www.smartskincare.com:

While moderate use of copper peptides stimulates collagen synthesis and has antioxidant effect…excessive use can have an opposite effect by increasing the levels of free copper [or] triggering excessive production of metalloproteinases. Free copper promotes free radical damage and collagen breakdown, leading to accelerated skin aging. Metalloproteinases can digest collagen and elastin, weakening the skin and causing sag…

The research isn’t conclusive. There are the usual disclaimers—“more studies required.”

I’ve found that skin that is healthy inside-out will automatically kick into recovery mode and rectify purposely induced damage (via brushing as opposed to retinoids), with or without copper peptides. My belief is that topical application cannot increase collagen, but stimulation via facial massage, exercises and brushing can. This is especially true if you give the body the nutrition it needs via a raw food diet to perform these functions. Did you know that some of the best sources of copper in the diet are leafy greens, nuts and seeds?

Instead of adding more pharmaceuticals to your lifestyle, why not go the natural way? You can get the desired effects of Retin A and copper peptides completely naturally and safely by practicing facial dry brushing, especially if you include facial exercises and massage along with a raw food diet. You do not have to rely on the men in white coats to concoct them in a laboratory, or worry about adverse side effects.

Skin belies aging like no other organ. It takes all the blame, while in fact it only reflects what it covers. The skin is the outermost organ of our body. Its purpose is to cover our deeper structures and first of all, the muscles.

Starting at about age 25, our muscles start to become measurably older…and smaller. By age 50, most of us have lost half or more of our muscle mass. Result: there is more skin to cover less muscle volume.

Muscles do more than help us to lift and jump and run. The heart is a muscle, as you well know, and its function is to pump blood. But did you know other muscles do the same thing? Not in the literal pumping sense of the heart. But consider… Arteries and veins are the conduits or “hoses” through which blood travels. Blood is pumped away from the heart and lungs through the arteries and it returns to the heart through the veins. It is muscle movement which gives the extra oomph your blood needs to flow fully.

Every 7-10 years, most of the cells of the body are totally renewed. This process of cell renewal means that at every moment in our body there are millions (may be even trillions) of dead cells. They are decomposing and releasing strong poisons which permeate through all the pores of the body. This situation is not dangerous since your body can neutralize and expel such poisons, but this is only possible if all the capillaries and the entire circulatory system is functioning properly. For skin to stay young, flexible, hydrated and smooth, it needs a good, strong, steady blood supply.

Muscle movement squeezes blood vessels, and helps the blood move along. So it is exercise that keeps your blood pumping well—including the blood which flows to the skin of your feet, legs, torso, arms, hands, and, yes, your face.

We lift weights, do aerobics, but somehow we don’t get to deliberately exercising the muscles of the face. There are over one hundred muscles in the head and neck alone! With age, the blood-supplying function of these muscles gets disrupted. Some are overworked, while others lack stimulation.

If we train our muscles, they can quickly become “younger.” Why do we care if the interior muscles that we can’t see are youthful? Because healthy, youthful facial muscles will guarantee that the cheeks won’t sag and the jowls won’t droop. Through facial exercise you can prevent or remove a double chin, reduce or eliminating “sunken eyes” and “dark circles.” But that is not the only benefit. A facial workout improves blood circulation and that’s what improves the condition of your skin.

What’s wrong with so many cosmetic treatments and even some cosmetic surgeries is that they focus on the skin as if it functions in isolation from the rest of the body.

Your body is a system. No part works in isolation. There’s no real health, and no real beauty, until we treat that entire system right.

The Rawsome Flex: Beautifying System of Facial Exercises and Raw Foods does for the face what lifting weights and practicing yoga do for the body. The program includes exercises and facial massage that are designed to contract and relax the facial muscles. Stimulate your facial muscles regularly, and your face will retain—or regain—its elasticity and youthfulness!

Your Skin is not Underwear

In his YouTube video, Effects of Facial Exercises on Your Skin, Dr. Schultz states that instead of benefiting your face, facial exercises will make you lose tone and encourage lines and wrinkles. He cautions that stretching and twisting of the facial muscles will eventually stretch the skin’s elastin to its final limit so that it can no longer snap back, like an old pair of underwear.

Not really a good analogy! There is an unbridgeable difference between the elastin fibers in your face and the elastic band in a pair of old underwear. Your skin, the largest organ of your body is living and constantly regenerating, but an article of clothing can only degenerate.

It’s not Like a Paperclip Either

The doctor asserts that by creasing or folding the skin, you are damaging the collagen, and doing so will simply wear out your skin, like bending and unbending a paper clip until it breaks. However, it is not so much that collagen “breaks down” under the influence of exercise, but that the body produces less collagen with poor diet and the effects of aging. My approach: Boost the body’s capability to produce useful collagen via raw foods.

Are Facial Muscles So Different?

Dr. Schultz claims that while exercising the body results in improved muscle tone which can firm the skin covering it, the same rule does not apply to the face. And why not? He does not give a satisfying explanation and instead just says it’s because when you move the underlying muscles you are also moving the skin. But of course the same is true for the muscles of your body-you are always moving the skin when you flex a muscle.

We make about 15,000 facial expressions every day. Our skin is nothing like a paperclip, because in our younger years these expressions leave no trace at all. Our skin is a living organ, on the face as well as everywhere else on our bodies. It is capable of remarkable rejuvenation.

Why doesn’t everyone have flawless skin then? The effects of poor diet, pollution, and years of neglect result in the degenerative processes happening faster than the regenerative ones. That is why I insist you add raw foods to your facial exercise routine to tip the scales in your favor!

It is apparent that Dr. Schultz shies away from facial exercises himself. Doctors often display rather more a spirit of rationalism than empiricism—that is, a spirit of “pure reason” where perhaps more practical experience is warranted.

Rethink Damage

“Damage”…such a dangerous term, and a relative one. Did you know every form of strength-building or muscle-building exercise involves “damage”? Weightlifting (strength-building) “damages” muscle cells. (“No pain, no gain,” as bodybuilders say, even while grimacing.)

Every esthetician knows, and every dermatologist for that matter, that you have to damage the outer skin layer of the skin in order to cause it to regenerate. This is performed by estheticians, cosmetologists and makeup artists and is referred to as “controlled skin damage.” It initiates the natural skin repair and renewal of cells.

Exfoliation is considered mild damage to differentiate it from more aggressive forms such as dermabrasion or chemical peels. These methods coax the skin to produce higher levels of collagen and elastin and encourage a faster renewal process, which usually takes about 28 days, but starts to take longer as we get older.

In my book, Rawsome Flex, I give more reasons in support of performing facial exercises as well as outlining a systematic facial exercise routine, which I practice daily. What about you? At least now you have more information to decide for yourself…

A Watched Pot Never Boils… Facial exercises do work, but I need to warn you not to watch too closely. Many women have, with a zealous and discerning eye, looked so closely at their faces once they began my Rawsome Flex program, that they start to see things that they had never noticed before.

Don’t Look Too Carefully

You started doing facial exercises. Chances are, you’ll want to see exactly what’s happening, day to day. But things won’t happen fast enough, if you’re impatient. When you start to scan every aspect of your features under a magnifying glass they become… well…magnified!

Even worse, over-scrutinizing might actually convince you you’re moving backwards. Why? Because you’ll get too familiar with the terrain. You’ll start to notice a flaw here, a discoloration there, maybe a line you hadn’t seen the day before. Meanwhile, since you’re just a few sessions in, you’re understandably not seeing drastic progress yet.

I was guilty of this myself, at first. I was going over features and details like a laboratory scientist—details I hadn’t paid any attention to before, so hadn’t really noticed.

One thing to remember: facial exercises cannot harm you. People who do them always look better than the ones who don’t. So, relax and wait till others start to comment on your improved looks.

Patience is Key

We’re all about instant gratification. Real health, however, is slower. And with natural beauty, just as with achieving natural health, things might get worse before they get better, because you might be dislodging some toxins in the process. Sadly, these temporary (and usually rather minor) effects are often misused by opponents of raw food lifestyles, just as they are by cosmetic surgeons advising against facial exercises.

It Will Happen!

Facial exercises will tighten your muscles, will tone your cheekbones area and will brighten and firm the area around your eyes! But the process, you need to know, will take some time; weeks, in some cases months.

Progress with anything substantial, whether raw foods, skin care or facial exercises, is rarely linear. Nothing very valuable in life improves steadily upward, like ascending a staircase, or like a straight-line graph, from day one.

Progress is Inevitable

Reasonable scrutiny will reveal the steps and bumps in your personal progress graph. But overscrutinizing will bend your mind and unjustly disappoint. Relax. Progress is inevitable—if you follow the program faithfully. Focus on the long-term cumulative effects of a proper raw food diet, a good skin care regimen, and daily facial exercises and you can’t go wrong.

A better way to state the truth: Facial skin is different. Check it out: Under a microscope, you’ll see the cells making up the top layer of the face are generally smaller than skin cells.

Your skin is an organ—the biggest in your body. As an organ, the skin works—it does things. Your skin is both a barrier and a membrane. That is, it’s designed to let pass through what’s supposed to, and to block what shouldn’t. Smaller cells mean less of a barrier, less blockage. What are the practical implications of this?

Water is lost from the face more quickly than from elsewhere on your body. One consideration is that you need to take more care of your facial skin than the skin elsewhere on your body. Your face needs to be moisturized regularly.

Facial skin is very rich in pores. This means that your eating habits will be imprinted on your face. Toxins getting released in the forms of pimples, acne, blackheads and other blemishes are more likely to appear on the face than anywhere else.

Contained in the skin of our face, as well as that of the scalp, are numerous microscopic glands, called sebaceous glands. They secrete an oily, waxy matter called sebum to lubricate our skin and hair. You’ll find these glands in the skin all over the whole body, except the palms of the hands and soles of the feet. But nowhere are they so abundant as on our face and scalp. One reason that facial exercises works as a remedy for dry skin for many people seems to be that by doing facial exercises you are stimulating these glands.

Yes, facial skin is different from that of the rest of the body, but it is still skin and therefore it acts like skin. Massaging facial skin, either with knuckle massage or facial exercises has a beneficial effect, optimizing its functions.

There’s world of difference between well cared for skin and neglected skin. Neglected skin exhibits pigmentation, fine lines and outbreaks. Degradation of collagen leads to folds and wrinkles. Incorporate good skin care practices, such as outlined in my article Perfect Skin in 5 Steps and your most beautiful you will emerge!

Nothing gives away your age like your neck. The neck region, or décolleté, often gets neglected. In younger years, its skin tone and musculature are more in-sync with the face, lending a youthful, graceful look. After 40, an almost imperceptible decline leads to fat deposits under the chin, weakened muscles and loose skin. And you can double that trouble if you’ve lost weight rapidly. We’ve all seen, and some of us have had, that turkey wattle. Weight loss, sun damage, diet, and heredity all play major roles in how our necks age. Women do seem to care meticulously for their faces, yet all too often that caring stops at the chin.

Don’t Neglect the Neck Area

You wattle-owners out there, remember that what’s good for the goose is good for the turkey. Don’t forget to carry your facial care routine all the way down your chin to your neck and collarbone area. We’ve all seen women who’ve had face lifts who look years younger, but their sagging, wrinkly necks give them away.

Gravity is not alone in contributing to the aging neck’s sagging and wrinkling. Duke University researchers found that our skull bones still continue to grow in barely detectable amounts as we age, causing bone structures to shift slightly. While the forehead shifts slightly forward, the cheek bones move slightly back, giving less support for muscles and skin tissues, giving the lower face and neck that ‘heading south’ look.

Platysma is the Culprit

The major neck muscle, the platysma, is not connected to any bone in particular and contains no oil glands. These factors make it prone to lose elasticity and become dry and wrinkly. As we age, the accumulated effects of UV damage and pollutants cause insufficient elastin production and the breakdown of collagen fibers.

The Mainstream Approach

Cosmetic surgery is the most common way of dealing with the issue. Liposuction, Botox and neck lifts are the usual recommendations by cosmetic surgeons, who declare, “You cannot get rid of the problem without surgery!” Typical surgeries performed for this are known as cervicoplasty (a procedure to remove excess skin) and platysmaplasty (which removes or alters muscles in the neck). Aside from the risks of anesthesia, there is the chance of bruising, bleeding, infection, and (worst of all) nerve injury. In some cases, we find scar tissue buildup and eventual puckering of the skin.

Consider Facial Exercises

I always had a double chin as long as I was eating cooked food—even in my twenties. Here, take a look at my pictures at 21 and 35 and see what I mean: Before and After. As cosmetologists say, I was “genetically predisposed.” Now—no hint of a double chin. Raw foods truly are the best remedy. But even going 100 percent raw might not be enough to completely eliminate the “turkey neck.” You can address this condition with a simple exercise. It is super-effective, but only if you’re super-diligent, doing it every single day.

Directions…Sit or stand, your arms hanging, relaxed. Tilt your head down an inch. Now, slowly rotate your head toward the right, so your chin is over your right shoulder. Once you’ve turned as far as you can comfortably go, begin tilting your head backward so your chin moves toward the ceiling. Hold this position a few seconds, then reverse the trajectory. Without stopping, do the same on the left side. Now your left ear moves closer to your left shoulder and then up toward the ceiling. Your chin will be making a half circle in the air. Do about 10 repetitions. This exercise is also good for your neck in general. Your neck may feel rather stiff to begin with so start off slow and easy. Be sure your shoulders remain still and relaxed throughout.

I believe neck exercises are essential. My Rawsome Flex program offers some excellent exercises for chin, jaw, neck and throat that can produce toning, firming and lifting results when practiced consistently.

Try the Vitamin Wrap

Spas sometimes offer a warm vitamin wrap specifically for the neck region, which you can easily replicate by yourself at home. Simply soak a large piece of gauze or cheesecloth in an ounce (30 ml.) or so of warm plant oil such as wheat germ oil or evening primrose oil. Apply to your entire neck region, cover with a warm towel for ten minutes (unless you have a thyroid condition), and then rinse. Apply moisturizer. You may also try out the Multi-Herbal Green Clay Masque for delightful detoxifying, toning and moisturizing effects. I also carry the Rolling Bed of Pins in my car, and at stop lights, I roll it on my face and neck for further rejuvenation.

The Hydrating Raw Diet

As the saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Your best aids in preventing and even reversing an aging neck are a slow transition to a hydrating raw food diet. Do this, and you’ll preserve your skin elasticity, boost collagen production, and reap the benefits of antioxiodants. Of course, it’s always up to you whether you choose cosmetic surgery in the long run. But before even considering it, I encourage you to pursue the safer, more natural route, using the same easy, inexpensive methods and tools I do. You’ll stay youthful and experience a glowing complexion. And you’ll send those turkeys packing!

I get feedback from many women around the world who are very excited about my facial exercise program: Rawsome Flex: Beautifying System of Facial Exercises and Raw Foods, available in paperback and as an ebook. One of the challenges that some women are facing—pun intended—is fitting the exercises into their daily routine. When you already have a full schedule, setting aside another 20 to 30 minutes each morning and evening seems overwhelming. Have no fear, help is on the way.

Facial exercises on the Rawsome Flex program are part of my daily routine. With these tips, I hope this life-changing program can become part of your story, too! When you first begin the Rawsome Flex program you’ll need to spend a week or two just to get familiar with how to perform each exercise. Once you become familiar with the 30 exercises presented, you can begin to adapt and individualize your program.

This is the fun part, where you begin to make it fit your schedule and lifestyle. As you gradually begin incorporating the exercises once, then twice a day, your consistency becomes more important than perfect performance. Be sure you are taking one day a week off as described in the program, so your muscles can rest. You can do several things to streamline your routine and make it more efficient, while still ensuring results. For instance, once you are familiar with the exercises, you may eliminate a few in the morning and simply do them later in the day when you are doing other routine tasks.

The office, school, errands, a class—there’s likely somewhere that you drive every day. How about picking two or three exercises to do during that time? As recommended in Day 12 of the program, you can perform the ‘Neck Smoother’ while you are waiting for your Multi-Herbal Green Clay Masque to work its magic in the morning. See whether you can find other “loose” times in your daily routine when you can double up. While you’re watching TV, for example, or surfing the net, you can incorporate any exercises you skipped in the morning. If the church sermon gets a little long, you can always practice your ‘Smiling O’ exercise. (Your pastor will surely be flattered.) Now you need never to be impatient again when waiting for a red light! Instead spend that time doing the Scooping Exercise. Just don’t look at the drivers in the neighboring cars.

Performing each exercise for an exact number of seconds is not crucial to success—no stopwatch is required. Simply count to 5, or 6 or whatever is recommended—sometimes you will count faster, other times slower. It’s up to you. Shaving off snippets of time here and there by only performing 8 repetitions instead of 10 is perfectly acceptable, especially when you start doing your facial exercises twice a day.

What you don’t do in one session, you can make up for in the next. Remember: It’s consistency that counts the most. Results are cumulative. The more you do your facial exercises, the better results you’ll see in the long run. But sticking to routine without any variation whatsoever just isn’t feasible for most people. Experiment. Enjoy the process. And don’t forget to send me your Before and After photos!

There are several benefits to taking the time to chew your raw foods thoroughly. One, of course, is ease of digestion. Chewing helps produce saliva, which contains enzymes that are needed to help break down our food. Also, chewing reduces the size and surface area of our food so that the enzymes can do their job of breaking down the foods more efficiently. After all, it has been said that the stomach has no teeth. But proper chewing of an abundance of raw foods benefits more than just digestion.

Thorough chewing can also aid somewhat in the prevention of dental erosion and loss of bone mass.
Saliva provides buffering capacity that resists acid attacks. This buffering capacity increases with the flow of saliva. The more you chew thoroughly, the greater the salivary flow rate. Saliva is also supersaturated with calcium and phosphorus, which inhibits demineralization of tooth structure.

If you still experience loss of bone mass on the raw food diet, the lack of physical activity is to blame! To illustrate this we have to understand how the human body builds bone mass. Bones are piezoelectric: they give off an electric current when they are mechanically stressed. In other words, if you take a bone, and apply pressure to it, it will actually produce an electric charge. In your body, this electric charge attracts a matrix of minerals to the location that’s being stressed where they add to the bone mass density and essentially build bigger and stronger bones. So you know to exercise your body, but how about the frame for your face, in particular your jawbone?
Facial exercises are an essential anti-aging practice.

If no pressure is applied to the bone it will be re-absorbed so that the priceless calcium can be deposited elsewhere. The jawbone begins to dissolve, resulting in concave surfaces, causing that “sunken mouth” look. This sunken appearance to the lower face makes us look older than we actually are. Bone loss also contributes to deep wrinkling, a pointed chin and jowls, and reduction in biting strength. It could be concluded that the lack of hard chewing because of missing teeth, crowns or other dental work adversely affects the growth and development of the jaw.

Only the jawbone that has chewed often and hard will retain its shape and form. Here is another reason to eat your salad: chewing your raw foods, such as greens, vegetables and roots is very good for your beauty! The following exercises will help prevent bone atrophy and shrinking gums. These simple exercises will bring fullness to the drooping, wrinkled and sagging lips and help to restore normal facial aesthetics.

Be aware that these exercises are very uncomfortable at first! Like any exercise the discomfort diminishes as your get stronger.

Closing Your Jaw Against a Force: Place your thumb upwards against your upper teeth while you push down against your lower teeth with your index finger and close your mouth while resisting with your fingers.
Repeat 20 times per day!

Opening Your Jaw Against a Force: Place you fist under your chin and press up while you open your jaw. Hold your elbow on the table while doing the exercises. I found that using a small rubber ball (about 5 inches in diameter) instead of my fist works better for me! You can buy such a ball at any department store in the toys section.
Repeat 20 times every day.

Moving Your Jaw Sideways Against a Force: Hold your right fist against your lower jaw. Now move your jaw sideways to the right while resisting the movement with your fist; then hold your left fist against your left jaw and move your jaw sideways to the left against your fist.
Repeat 20 times every day.

For my complete facial exercise regimen refer to Rawsome Flex.

Your face is you…Your face reflects how you feel. Let’s get honest—how are you feeling? Aging?…Tired?…Sad?…Distressed?

Whatever you’re seeing in the mirror, the Rawsome Flex System will help you improve what you—and others—see. Tonya Zavasta’s experience and research bring you 30 carefully designed exercises, with illustrations and practical tips. Her 21-day regimen will help you build a healthy lifetime habit that achieves incredible results.

Tonya Zavasta’s unique Rawsome Flex System offers a better look, a better self-image to every woman—or man!—who feels the need to look their best. Sculpted abs…trim triceps…taut buns—any gym, any sound exercise program can bring you those. Your facial muscles, as much as or even more than body muscles, can sag, bag, droop, and go all-over wrinkly. Facial exercises improve your face just as other exercises improve your physique—only faster and more dramatically.

The Rawsome System will literally sculpt your face. Tonya’s system will slim your face…give you that glowing look…reduce wrinkles…eliminate or greatly reduce pouches, double chins, jowls…give you that “high cheek bones” look you’ve always wanted.

Facial exercises are excellent, but they are only part of the whole beauty equation. Your challenge is to make your mature skin respond the way your young skin once did. By eating raw foods, you’ll help your system work as efficiently as a much younger person’s. You’ll attack the aging process internally with raw foods…externally with a total exercise regime—body and face. The result—slower aging. Tonya’s Facial Exercise plan will get you looking 10 years younger…raw foods another 20 years younger. Starting today.

Face it—you’ve nothing to lose and lots of youth to gain. Here’s the book you want…for the look you want. Exercise the right choice…Go ahead—make your move.

One Lady wrote me: “Hi Tonya, I just read your article about facial exercises. I was wondering if rebounding on a mini-trampoline would be good or bad for facial muscles. I have heard that it has an anti-aging effect, but I also heard that aerobic exercise can cause sagging. What do you think?”

Once again, physics can help explain a quandary!

Your body is always on the receiving end of the gravitational pull of the earth. On a trampoline, the effect is intensified and you are suddenly more aware of your body’s response. Each time you bounce off the trampoline, you stretch its surface and springs. The maximum stretch on it occurs just before you reach the bottom of the launch. You are heading downward but you are simultaneously losing your downward speed and decelerating. When you spring, there is an initial upward velocity. At the highest point of the jump, your body is suspended for a split second in a state of weightlessness.

Descending, the force applied to your body increases. At the lowest point of the jump, the body is receiving at least two gravitational forces that equates with weighing twice its normal weight. Sagging muscles react to increased gravitation pull by accentuating the appearance of flaccidity. However, the trampoline effect is as beneficial as any other stress and relax exercise.

The rebound is excellent for overall toning of the body. The trampoline is an all purpose exercise routine. It is low impact and besides making stronger bones and toning muscles, it can lower stress and increase energy. It gives a cardio-vascular workout and can help lower cholesterol.

Raw foods and facial exercises are your best protection. Loss of tone is what causes the skin to sag and lose its youthful smooth appearance. Your goal should be to strengthen your facial muscles with facial exercises. You should not to be so protective of your face that you miss out on the fun and benefits of trampolining. To stop doing it because all the bouncing might cause facial muscles to sag more would not only be unfortunate but it is the type of solution that deals with symptoms instead of addressing the cause of the problem.

Strong muscles make it easier for your skin to resist the forces of gravity. The increased downward pull, which occurs when rebounding, causes the cells to strengthen and become denser. Bones, muscles, organs, skin, and tissues all get stronger. By regularly doing facial exercises and strengthening those muscles, it will offset any negative effects of other physical activities.

Have fun, worrying will do more harm to your face than a trampoline.
