Fifteen Years of Cupping: What It Can Do for Your Skin
  1. Cupping: Ancient Wisdom, Modern Science

Cupping is not a new health trend. It is an ancient healing practice with a documented history of more than 3,500 years and possibly much older roots.

Its long history is fascinating. And modern science has finally started paying attention to it!

A scientific article published in the Journal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine reviewed 64 research papers to explore how cupping therapy might work. And guess what? Scientists still haven't come up with a single theory that explains all the effects of cupping.

And, as so often happens with natural healing methods, they came to the familiar conclusion: "Further research is needed." But let's be realistic. There isn't much financial incentive to fund this kind of research, so it might take years.

Meanwhile, I've been using cupping daily on my face and hip scars for 15 years, and I know from personal experience that it works wonders! You don't have to believe me. All you need to do is experience it and see for yourself!

I'm so glad I learned about cupping before ChatGPT came along! These days, anyone new to cupping gets bombarded with warnings and safety precautions, as if 3,500 years of use across so many different cultures doesn't count for much! Please make sure to read this article carefully to understand the possibility of bruising after cupping therapy and how to prevent or minimize it: Cupping Theory Benefits.

2. Facial Aging and Fascia: What's the Connection?

A growing trend on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram suggests that facial aging—including deep folds, sagging cheeks, and loss of facial contours—may be linked to fascia becoming tight, restricted, or unable to glide freely. I've believed this to be the case since I first learned about fascia years ago. So when I discovered facial cupping 15 years ago, I didn't hesitate for a moment. I knew right away that I wanted to try it.

Understanding Facial Anatomy

Research confirms that the face contains glide planes, which allow certain tissues to move relative to one another, and fibrous attachments, which anchor tissues and help maintain facial structure. These are found throughout the face, including the cheeks, around the cheekbones, and along the jawline.

The "Stuck Fascia" Theory

The theory suggests that muscle tension, repetitive expressions, inflammation, posture, and aging may restrict natural tissue movement. Over time, this reduced mobility is thought to create uneven pulling and tissue bunching, potentially contributing to deeper folds, creases, and changes in facial contours. That is where the facial cupping can help!

Of course, aging isn't simply about fascia becoming "stuck." Research shows that facial aging involves several factors working together, including loss of skin firmness, changes in facial fat and bone structure, connective tissue changes, repeated expressions, genetics, sun exposure, and hormones.

This is where I believe raw foods and facial cupping can complement each other.

These days, here’s how I care for my neck and décolleté area!  First, I apply our new Radiance Facial Cream with Sea Buckthorn & Propolis, then reach for my RejuvaCup HD. I gently cup along the sides of my neck, focusing on the scalene muscles, never the front of my neck. These muscles can get very tight, and that tension affects how the skin around your neck looks as you age. Learn more in Facial Cupping with RejuvaCup HD.

For years, raw foods and facial cupping have been my two main natural practices for maintaining a smooth, wrinkle-free complexion. More information in Facial Cupping Massage.

As we age, our skin produces less collagen and elastin, making it thinner, weaker, and more delicate. It also loses moisture and natural oils, weakening its protective barrier. As a result, tiny blood vessels become more visible, and the skin reacts more easily to heat, friction, and skincare products, causing redness and irritation. Years of sun exposure can make these changes worse.

As a result, our skin needs a little extra love and care! That’s why I created this new cream, packed with a generous dose of nourishing sea buckthorn oil and propolis extract.

I designed Radiance Cream with Sea Buckthorn and Propolis to help soothe and calm facial skin after using my beauty tools, such as the RejuvaCup, Strigil, and Violet Ray, and especially after dry brushing. It’s the perfect finishing touch to your skincare ritual, helping reduce the appearance of redness while leaving your skin feeling nourished, soft, and refreshed.
